Total Hip
Replacement
If your age, bone quality or other factors prevent
you from being eligible for a Birmingham Hip
Resurfacing, a traditional total hip replacement
may be right for you.  With a total hip
replacement, the head and neck of your affected
hip are cut away and replaced with a titanium hip
stem, metal, ceramic or Oxinium head and a
titanium cup with a plastic liner.  This procedure
can be done through a minimal incision to
minimize blood loss, scaring and recovery time.

Total hip replacement is a great alternative to hip
resurfacing and has been the gold standard in
the U.S. for many years.  You will be able to
return to a normal, pain free life with a very short
recovery time.  Only high impact activities like
running and basketball are typically limited by
this procedure.
